How to cancel an automatic payment on PayPal
Stop a subscription or recurring payment that's billed through PayPal by cancelling the automatic payment.
Steps
On the PayPal website
- Log in to PayPal and select Settings (the gear icon).
- Open the Payments tab and select Manage automatic payments.
- Select the merchant you want to stop.
- Select Cancel, then Cancel automatic payments to confirm.
If the merchant isn't listed
- Select Pre-approved payments or Billing agreements if that's what your account shows.
- The merchant may bill you another way; use its cancel page.
Good to know
- Cancelling the payment in PayPal may not cancel your account with the merchant. Cancel with the merchant too.
- Money already billed isn't refunded by cancelling.
Common questions
Does cancelling in PayPal cancel my subscription with the merchant?
It stops PayPal from paying them. Cancel with the merchant as well so the account closes properly.
Can the merchant restart charges?
Not through a cancelled automatic payment, but you'd have to approve a new one.
